The Marianna Black Library is kicking off another Summer Music Series on Thursday, June 11th, and is proud to present the traditional music of Larry Barnett and Blue Smith at 7:00 PM.

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Larry has been living in Bryson City since the 1990s, when he took ownership of Grampa’s Music. He has played banjo, fiddle, mandolin or guitar in many bands, but most famously the Sawmill Creek Porch Band – a local favorite. Blue grew up in the Bluegrass Hills of Kentucky, where he learned to play guitar as a boy. After several years on that instrument, he began experimenting with other traditional instruments, first the mandolin, then the banjo, and now you could pretty much say, “if it has strings, Blue can play it – and well!” He has also played with local favorites, The Freighthoppers and The Barn Cats. Blue has also shared the stage with Town Mountain, Balsam Range, Michael Cleveland and the Flame Keepers, Larry Keel, and many more.

Now Larry and Blue have gotten together, and they’re one of the tightest duets around.

Other performances scheduled for this summer include Phoenix Dusk, Lee Knight, William Ritter & Sarah Olgletree, and many more. Please join us for an evening of great traditional music at the Marianna Black Library. The library is located in Downtown Bryson City at the corner of Academy and Rector.
