Each week, during our Summer Reading Program at the TALK, books on different themes, authors, eras, series, subjects, etc… are displayed, discussed, and hopefully checked out for someone to enjoy reading.

 

July 9 - John and Cathryn Sill team up as author and illustrator in the simple, easy-to-read About… Series. Cathryn will give some pointers on the writing process, such as how and where she gets ideas. John will be demonstrating some of his beautifully detailed illustrations. This is sure to be a very informative and entertaining event.

Wednesday Movies at the Library

 

Movies are shown at 4:30 and 7 pm on an 8x10 foot screen using an LCD projector. English subtitles will be turned on for all films as a courtesy to those with hearing difficulties. Popcorn will be served; feel free to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. There is no charge, however donations are welcome.

Daniel Plainview is a turn of the century prospector in Texas who has success in oil. He gets a tip about an abundance of oil in a rural area and picks it up for a steal by misleading the owning family. Daniel is a true sociopath who attempts to crush anyone who will stand in his way in this extreme character study.

Thursdays at the Library Programs

 

Thursdays at the Library is an eclectic mixture of programs by authors and musicians on topics designed for enjoyment and education. All programs are at 7 pm. They are sponsored through the generosity of the Friends of the Library and the Macon County Public Library. This project is made possible in part by the North Carolina Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities

Friday Movie Classics

 

We are showing movie classics and other time-honored movies each Friday at 2pm. Enjoy some of your old favorites, and perhaps you'll discover a new favorite or two.

Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) moves in with her sister Stella (Kim Hunter) and Stella’s husband, Stanley (Marlon Brando). Blanche refuses to come to terms with the death of her Southern aristocratic background, causing her to conflict with her lower-class brother-in-law. Stanley harshly forces her to face the facts, driving her to a complete personality breakdown in this cinematic version of the classic Tennessee Williams play.
