The Macon County Public Library is supported by the Friends of the Library through fundraisers and the Friends Bookstore located at 121 Highlands Road in Franklin – one of the only full-time, Friends' volunteer-run used bookstores in North Carolina. The bookstore carries a wide range of used books, magazines, records, puzzles, games and other items. Visit our website and learn more about the Friends of the Macon County Library. The Library is supported by two charitable funds. The Macon County Public Library Gift Fund is a vehicle for supporting immediate needs. The Macon County Public Library Endowment Fund, which was established with a bequest from the late Helen Mason, is intended to build for future needs. Both are part of the Macon County Community Foundation's family of funds, which are affiliated with the North Carolina Community Foundation.

A gift given by Mary Eaton in honor of her mother, Olive B. Eaton, a former Macon County teacher, has established a charitable fund to support the Olive B. Eaton Writing Contest. Now in its 22nd year, the contest continues to provide inspiration and support to young writers in Macon County.
